Introduction | Variety | Evening Standard | Los Angeles Times

Surely born to be Wilde, Stephen Fry gives a towering performance as the eponymous artist who in his work, life and wit, strode ahead of the times. Meanwhile, Jude Law proves to be ripe for the role of Wilde's paramour, Lord Alfred Douglas in this highly engaging and touching biopic that delves into the harsh hypocrisy of the Edwardian Era.
The Scotsman

As far as we're concerned, only two actors are truly worthy of the coveted 'So Sexy It's Rude' accolade. One is the gorgeous Ewan McGregor. The other is his best pal, Jude Law. Delectable Jude takes the biscuit in the new flick Wilde ... The boy's absolutely superb in the role.
"B" Magazine

(Stephen Fry's) performance in Julian Mitchell's version of Oscar Wilde's life is thus entirely felicitous, fluent, sympathetic, grand and intimate. It can't be faulted ... this is a handsome film never less than superbly cast. Law is outstanding as Bosie, Jennifer Ehle is wonderfully delicate as Constance Wilde, emotions flickering on her face.
Victoria Mather  - Tatler

Stephen Fry is an impressive Oscar Wilde in an intelligent and moving story.
Radio Times

Fry's performance as the imprisoned Wilde was brilliant ... Stephen Fry was born to play Wilde ... Fry's delivery of Wilde's lines, magnetic screen presence and ability to transform the arrogant and weak willed adulterer into a tortured lover will tug at the audience's heart strings ... Fry's excellence was matched by a strong cast. Jude Law was impressive as the passionate Lord Alfred; Jennifer Ehle close to perfection as Wilde's long-suffering wife; Tom Wilkinson suitably revolting as Queensberry and Michael Sheen superb as Ross ... Brian Gilbert's film, based on Richard Ellmann's acclaimed biography of Wilde, lavishes perfection.
